Although oral accidents and health emergencies are common, they can also be very serious and cause severe problems for your oral health and overall health too. Preparation for any accidents that may occur could be the difference in saving your beautiful smile should a problem ever occur.

If you get an object stuck in your teeth, it’s probably going to happen between the teeth. Never use a sharp object to try and dislodge the object. Be careful not to use anything that can chip or crack your teeth especially since this can cause severe pain. Your best options are interdental cleaners, water flossers, and especially any form of dental floss.

Sometimes when we are eating or speaking, we can bite our lips or tongue by accident. Although most bites are small, sometimes we can break the surface of the skin causing pain. If you are bleeding, wash the wound out instantly to ensure it is clean. After it is clean, apply a fresh gauze pad to stop any bleeding. After the bleeding stops, make sure the wound does not require any stitches. If it does, visit your doctor right away.

There are many activities or risks in our world that can cause tooth loss. Always protect yourself with safety equipment if possible, especially during any contact sports. If you do have any teeth knocked out, there could still be a chance to save it if a tooth becomes loose or damaged. If a tooth does fall out, keep the tooth moist at all times so it doesn’t dry out. This includes storing it in milk, salt water, or an approved tooth-saver product. Take the tooth back to our dentists to see if reinsertion is a possibility.
